The Battles of Rivacheg *FINISHED*

Rivacheg.
The first battle, painted by Vaegirian scholars

XIX - The Jumnish Threat - XIX
Upon the Nord's first attempts of gaining a hold on Calradia, it was said that the current Nordic king at the time, had demanded tribute from all of the other kingdoms in order to keep their civilians safe from the wrath of the sea raiders and the Nordic people, certain kingdoms had paid tributes in order to prevent a senseless war with an enemy from unknown lands, with a potential to be a threat to Calradia.

However, the Vaegirs refused to back down and pay tribute to the Nords, in old textures scattered across Rivacheg, it is set blatantly that the Nords had set down hard terms for the Vaegirs, but their king simply ignored these messages and warnings, which had lead to the first battle for Rivacheg against the Nordic invaders.

XIX - The First Jumnish Landing - XIX
The battle took place upon a rainy, and drowsy day, which had been at a disadvantage to the Nords who were arriving on longships to storm the city of Rivacheg, however upon their attempt to besiege Rivacheg, they were met with heavy resistance from the Vaegirs inside, who had setup formations of bowmen that lashed arrow upon arrow against their foe.

They were dropping in numbers due to how many continued to fight through the mess, and the Nordic assault was heavily divided, a few Jarls leading the fight had noticed that they were being weakened by the enemy, and tried to reunite the soldiers away from the enemy fire in order to attempt putting up ladders to attack the walls.

This was a very poor decision on the jarls behalf, whilst a grand majority of the men were focused on the lines making sure that they would be able to get the ladders up and begin the first push, they had totally forgot about the enemy using their split forces as an advantage, so it was ordered that they were to shoot down the walls as a distraction against the Nordic enemy, and a small force of Vaegir cavalry stormed out the gates, attacking many of the enemy forces.

The Nords were heavily picked off at this stage, and could not properly sustain a fight against their Vaegirian enemies, as a result many attempted to retreat back to their ships, and many passed away during the first battle from injuries or from a lack of treatment, as they were dragged into the Rivacheg dungeons and totally forgotten about.

The only 'special treatment' that was given to the enemy, was for some of the captured Jarls which would've proven to be a great way of attempting to negotiate the enemy into leaving their homelands alone, however some of them had managed to escape, and the rest were tortured and executed.

Battle Results & The Aftermath
Jarl Hogreim Svanshild (deceased, killed in the battle and later decapitated by Vaegirian enemies).
Jarl Vorgard Tuskvaar (deceased, captured and killed by the Vaegirs).
Jarl Fyrwin Balvyr (deceased, killed when uniting the infantry for the attack on the wall).
Thegn Vilmund Cyredon (deceased, killed upon the knights riding out of the main Rivacheg gates).

Estimated Amount of Deceased - 137.
Estimated Amount of Captives - 75.
(20 dead in captivity).

The first defeat of the Nordic armies raised the spirits of the Vaegirian people, who had sent out news of the first battle to the other boyars and nobility of the Vaegirian kingdom, soon after they had slowly started to hire more recruits that had travelled from afar hearing news of such victory, and others who were already trained, well prepared, soldiers from other boyars.

At the same time however, this defeat made it harder for the Nords to try and prove their superiority over the Vaegirs, it had somewhat demoralised their people knowing that such an important battle was lost by their own people, but the king didn't want to make amends with the Vaegirs for his fallen men, rather, this was taken by him as a point wherein he could further provoke relations between the Vaegirs and the Nords.

XIV - Second battle, a close call! - XIV

After the first smashing defeat the Nords had faced against the Vaegirs, still determined and battle scarred, they had decided to attempt another offensive assault on Rivacheg once again, this time however they took to uniting their armies at Wercheg in order to storm against the snowy planes attempting to use it as an advantage against the Vaegirs.

The only main difference about this attack, is that the Nordic forces this time around were far stronger, and more prepared for the battle of Rivacheg, seeing as the king had leased the realm Marshal his personal huskarls as an attempt to bring fear into the eyes of the enemy as they attacked.

As they marched, and marched, they were eventually encountered by a retinue belonging to some Vaegir nobles who had skirmished them whilst they had passed Bulugha Castle, they saw this being a problem as it could've potentially cut off their forces in the long run and caused a real threat to the men, so before the party had advanced they decided to totally ransack Bulugha.

As a result, many Vaegirian troops were lost during the battle of Bulugha, as the castle was eventually reduced to flame and rubble from the aggression the Nords had displayed against their foes, and the new boyars they had captive in order to now hopefully sway the enemy at Rivacheg into surrendering, if the cost is dear to them.

They continued to march, with their newly found prisoners, and some food from Bulugha so that their retinue doesn't starve to death, by the time they arrive at Rivacheg, a war camp is assembled on the outskirts wherein the Nords had planned to first parlay with the nobility inside of Rivacheg for a 'peaceful' solution to the situation, three-four days of attempting to negotiate with them went by, however nobody responded...

Eventually they had enough, the boyars held captive were murdered by the Nordic retinue, and they had finally lay besiege to the Rivacheg walls, now more prepared than the last time they had attempted to invade the city, they were managing to eliminate many Vaegirs, and had even successfully managed to breach the gates and the walls, it were almost as if they were swarming the city, filling it with death.

They were getting closer, and closer, to emerging victorious, however... there was a smarter reason as to why the Vaegirs didn't respond to the threat at their front gate, was because they had spotted the Vaegirs attempting to communicate with them, however they had secretly sent out a messenger to call for aide against the Nordic party, who in their words were 'twice as big as the last one' and a 'serious threat to Rivacheg'.

So, by the time dawn had hit and the fight was still somewhat raging on, with resistance from the main keep, it was said that the Vaegir king himself and a bunch of his loyal vassals, stormed the gates and shut them behind themselves upon entry, only to ride towards the Nordic party on their horseback, slaying them mercilessly.

Battle Results & The Aftermath

Estimated Amount of Captives - 96.
(50 dead in captivity).

XII - Bloodbath of Rivacheg - XII

Upon another defeat from the resilient Vaegirians who ultimately refuse to surrender, the war machine of the Nordic people was slowly starting to die down as they became less powerful from the Vaegirs cunning tricks after their futile attempts of taking over the lands of Rivacheg, the Nordic king was infuriated by the loss of his huskarls, and gathered the whole realm together to fight against the Vaegirs, and finally take over Rivacheg.

Tensions weren't easing up, and the Nords had a stable foothold in Calradia, with the whole realm assembled their men would've doubled the garrison at Rivacheg and gained a successful chance to finally take over the uninvadable city that has already been deemed a graveyard for the fighters that have been lost so far.

He started his campaign in Sargoth, the whole army consistent of a grand majority of his Earls, Jarls, Thegns, remnants of his huskarls, and many more that were eager to finally win the battle for Rivacheg aided his quest, they didn't this time however wish to directly attack Rivacheg so they went around the Vaegirian border provoking towns, and raiding those that opposed his rule.

His men were ruthless in these raids and attacks, many Vaegirs were forced to run from their original homelands or were just outright brutally murdered by the king and his retinue, as his control over the Vaegir lands grew however, it gave the enemy time to prepare as news was spreading of attacks directly from the king himself.

The Vaegirs gathered an army, and marched towards the villages and towns that had been ransacked by the Nordic war campaign, they didn't really encounter much other than some resistance from new inhabitants, or bandits that had overrun the abandoned places that now stand a somewhat shallow reminder of the past.

However, the Nords moved their campaign over to Rivacheg, and as a result they were attempting to besiege, eventually this news reached the Vaegir kings campaign as he had now successfully invaded Tehlrog castle from the Nords, and given it a minor noble that had a great stance in Reyvadin at the time.

The parties eventually met each other, this time whilst the Nords were invading, they had prepared siege towers, and were defending the lines from behind incase the Vaegirs were to attack their entourage of war once again, the fight raged on in the city as forces started to push in further and further.

Whilst the fighting raged on, the Vaegir king eventually had his cavalry encircle the Nords, in the middle of the city their huge forces had gathered and were now fighting off the Vaegirs with the remains of their retinue, some had spikes and were killing horses and brutally slaying Vaegir knights soon after, however as more and more dropped to the floor, so did Nords... and their numbers started to fall dramatically.

Eventually, the Nordic king at the time (being Harald Norvyr) and Vaegir king (Ivan Radanovich) met hand to hand in the field, the remains of both parties slowly encircled them as they noticed the kings duelling with one another in this bloodbath of a fight, eventually Harald fell down to the floor, defeated mercilessly as his men stood down to the Vaegirian king.

With no successors to his name, the Nordic realm had to get together and elect a new king to stand for their people, at the same time however, all of the nobility had got together and mutually agreed to maintain a peace with the Vaegirs, and rebuild their own realm since this war had went on.

Battle Results & The Aftermath
King Harald Norvyr (deceased, killed in one on one combat with King Ivan Radanovich).
Hertug Bjorn Alfson (deceased, killed in the siege for Rivacheg).
Earl Gorm Halfdan (deceased, killed in the siege for Rivacheg during the encirclement).
Earl Frode Knudston (deceased, killed in the siege for Rivacheg during the encirclement).
Earl Skarde Leifson (deceased, killed in the siege for Rivacheg).
Thegn Einar Truelson (deceased, killed in the raid against Rebache).
Boyar Vasiliyev Metravic (deceased, killed in the siege for Rivacheg).
Boyar Dima Resnovich (deceased, killed in the siege for Rivacheg).
Bogatyr Koyla Cragic (deceased, killed in the siege for Tehlrog).
Bogatyr Mikhail Polpov (deceased, killed in the siege for Tehlrog).
Thegn Asmund Torgrimson (deceased, killed in the raid against Rebache).

Estimated Amount of Deceased - 267.
Estimated Amount of Captives - 251.
(0 dead in captivity).

The captured Nords were eventually ransomed back to their homelands, and the treaty between the Nords and Vaegirs was signed, adjustments were made to the ownership of Tehlrog castle in order to prevent further conflict, however the Nords must pay tribute to the Vaegirs for giving up Tehlrog so easily after their transgressions.
