He would then solder it to create a single larger piece. Using a high impurity of a gold piece, the melting process would be significantly faster. This would create a larger surface while retaining the thickness of the gold sheets. He would then hammer the gold sheets to a higher level of fineness. The process of plating would involve gold foil being hammered or smoothed over a core of glass or another metal, which in this case, was copper. Gilding the used gold leaf Cynemaer would press onto a base copper. Thus, making the piece of jewelry to have the appearance and associated prestige of gold, without using actual solid gold. He would have done multiple times, making more profit by using less gold.
